With a 3-1 score for the series (6-16 Inferno, 16-11 Vertigo, 16-9 Mirage, 16-10 Overpass) FURIA defeated AVANGAR at the EMF CS:GO World Invitational, claiming the ~$64,100 prize pool.
The two-team invitational featured just one match, and the BO5 series kicked off on Inferno, AVANGAR's map pick, with the team from Kazakhstan managing a solid 9-6 CT side after a slow start. After the switch, Dzhami "Jame" Ali and co. grabbed control of the match and chained seven rounds in the row on the T side to claim the map quickly, 16-6.
The action then moved to FURIA's pick, Vertigo, with the Brazilian side starting on the offense. Andrei "arT" Piovezan was leading the charge for his team both in terms of overall fragging and finding entries, helping them reach a 9-2 lead. AVANGAR woke up towards the end of the half and put on some pressure by winning the first rifle round in the second half (12-10), but couldn't convert it into a map win as we saw FURIA close it out 16-12.
Mirage followed, where FURIA continued with their momentum, going up 6-1 off the bat on the defense. With Alexey "Qikert" Golubev standing out, AVANGAR once again recovered in the second part of the first half (9-6), but the Brazilians claimed another pistol after the switch and finished off the map 16-9.
With a 2-1 lead in the series, FURIA moved to Overpass with a chance to close out the game and take the win. Jame grabbed a triple in the CT pistol to get AVANGAR to start on the right foot, but FURIA's fast pace was hard for them to deal with.
AVANGAR managed a minimal lead going into the second half, 8-7, but arT's squad got control of the map with a five-round-winning streak at the start of their CT half. Having a 12-8 advantage on the CT side, FURIA had no issues closing out Overpass and taking the win at the Invitational.
